the Enoch Pratt Free Library’s new president Visit to the ECEB

We were honored to welcome Karen Leggett Abouraya, award-winning journalist and children's author, and Tharwat Abouraya, appointed public servant and Chairman of Maryland Governor’s Middle Eastern American Affairs Commission, along with Manuel Knight, tourism sector planner and destination crafter, Chad Helton, the Enoch Pratt Free Library’s new president and CEO and Liz Sunderman from Enoch Pratt Library.

During the meeting, discussions focused on an exciting digital tour of the Embassy of Knowledge at Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA), as they prepare for an in-person visit to the renowned library in the coming months. Plans are also underway for a major international conference to further academic and cultural collaboration.

The visit also included in-depth conversations about potential partnerships and collaborative initiatives to strengthen cultural exchange between Egypt and the United States and evaluate the possibilities of promoting and utilising the treasures of the BA.

Celebrating Africa’s Unity through Art and Culture

The Egyptian Cultural and Educational attache was honored to attend a remarkable event hosted by the Embassy of Cameroon — the launch of the first-of-its-kind Pan-African fabric, designed to unite and celebrate Africa's rich heritage.

Egypt had a proud presence at this special occasion, as a representative symbol from Egypt was woven into this incredible artwork created by the talented artist Shiri Achu.

The event featured inspiring speeches from H.E. the Ambassador of Cameroon and H.E. the Ambassador of the African Union to the U.S., followed by memorable highlights, including a stunning fashion show showcasing the new Pan-African fabric and a lively demonstration of Cameroon’s national dish.

In a touching moment, each of the nine represented countries, including Egypt, received a special gift made from the fabric. The warm greetings and gracious welcome extended by H.E. the Ambassador and the artist Shiri Achu left the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Attaché truly speechless and proud.

Exciting steps toward international collaboration

The Egyptian Cultural and Educational Attaché Prof. Nermine Sabry met virtually with Dr. Eddi Contreras, the Vice Provost of Global Engagement and Ms. Mona Menking, the director of International Graduate Recruitment at Baylor University’s Center for Global Engagement.

The meeting explored strategic opportunities to strengthen partnerships between Baylor University and Egyptian academic institutions. Discussions covered tuition fee waivers, student exchange programs, and the development of dual and joint degree initiatives — all aimed at expanding educational horizons and fostering innovation across borders.
