On Saturday, August 29, the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Washington, D.C., was delighted to host a special cultural gathering celebrating the Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (Al-Mawlid Al-Nabawi).

The celebration began with the cultural story behind the traditional sweets associated with this special occasion in Egypt, exploring their history and the stories and traditions that have made them such a familiar part of Mawlid celebrations for generations.

We were then honored to welcome Mr. Amgad Ismael, who shared two beautiful poems in praise of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), adding a wonderful literary dimension to the evening.

The program concluded with an engaging talk by Sheikh Ahmed Almaz (الشيخ أحمد ألمظ), who reflected on the Prophet’s character, values, and behavior, and discussed how these principles can inspire our daily lives and interactions within American society.

Our sincere thanks to our friend Khan El-Khalily – Mohamed Khattab for the lovely giveaways provided to our guests, and a very special thank you to my colleague Dalia Zaher for her tremendous efforts and support throughout the day.

It was a pleasure to meet with representatives of South Dakota State University (SDSU) to explore opportunities for expanding academic and research collaboration between Egypt and the United States.

Our discussions focused on establishing strategic partnerships in areas of mutual interest, including joint research initiatives, faculty and student exchange, dual and joint academic programs, capacity building, and professional development. We also explored opportunities to enhance collaboration in research, innovation, and interdisciplinary education while fostering stronger institutional ties between SDSU and Egyptian universities.
